Take a journey through history by visiting the enchanting caves of Dyros and the archeological site of Gythion

Depart Gythion and drive southwest passing through barren landscape engulfed with rugged mountains which is typical of the Mani region, in southwestern Peloponnesus. The history of this part of Greece dates back to the Neolithic era (6,000-3,000 B.C.). During your relaxing drive, listen to your guide as he/she explains to you how the findings discovered in Alepotrypa Cave, located close to Dyros Caves, have revealed that prehistoric man inhabited this southernmost corner of Greece. The drive to Dyros Caves will take approximately one hour. Upon your arrival at the cavern, follow your guide as you embark a small boat, which will take you right inside the cavern allowing you to marvel at its unique lake and splendid stalactites and stalagmites. At the designated point, continue your excursion on foot, however, take care as the ground is quite slippery. At the end of this unforgettable experience, walk uphill in order to return to your motorcoach and before returning to the ship and Gythion, drive to Neapolis village where you will have a short stop to enjoy time on your own.

After this relaxing short stop drive back to Gythion and its archaeological site. The most important monuments of the site are: The Ancient Theatre, remains of burial monuments dated to Roman period and remains of Early Christian Basilicas The ancient theatre was discovered at the end of last century in the excavations conducted by the Greek Archaeological Society. Remains of burial monuments and Early Christian Basilicas came recently into light in the excavations of the Greek Archaeological Service. The excavations of the Archaeological Society last century uncovered the theatre dated to the Early Imperial period and part of the ancient Agora. The latter came into light again during recent excavations conducted by the 5th Ephorate. Drive to the ship.
