Visit the magnificent archaeological site of Philippi and discover its glorious history

Depart the beautiful port of Kavala and drive about 20 km distance (30 minutes), to Philippi’s archeological sites. The most important sites contain monuments that are found at the foot of the acropolis. You can also visit a theatre built by Philip II, it is incorporated into slopes. Another interesting place to visit which is nearby the theatre, hollowed out of the rock, is the Sanctuary of Pan.

At the center of the built up-area is the paved expanse of the great rectangular Forum which can also be visited. Of interest are the remains of Basilica A and the large Basilica B which you look at and travel back in time. After having had a guided tour of Philippi’s archeological site for 2 ½ hours, you will then drive back the same route to return to the port of Kavala. There will then be some free time for any passengers who wish to take a short stroll alone.
