Zakynthos (Zante)– Island Tour

Zakynthos (Zante) known as “The Flower of the Levant” is the largest of the Ionian islands. Leave the port and drive to the center of the town where you will have a guided walking tour, visiting the centrally located Byzantine Museum which houses unique icons from the past centuries. The museum’s rich collection of portable icons gives a very informative panorama of the local tradition in ecclesiastical painting, with works dating back to the Byzantine times until the 19^th century as well as approximately one thousand post-Byzantine works in the Ionian and Zakynthian styles. From here drive to the Bohali lookout point, situated on top of Castle Hill, where you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Zante town.

Afterwards drive through traditional villages to Macherado and Agia Mavra and then return to the town of Zante and Saint [“Agios”] Dionisios Church, situated on the islands port and is near the sea as well. Saint Dionisios is the patron saint of Zante, which is considered to be one of the holiest places in Greece. See the interior of this important cathedral, beautifully decorated and marvel at the carved silver urn of the saint.

Finally you will return back to the ship and you will be given free time to wander around and visit the island on your own.
