Peculiar, yet charming, the village of Alberobello, declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site, is an distinguished destination, uncovering history under the veil of the authentic.

There has to be a reason why Alberobello is famous all over the world: this small fairy-tale village will bewitch you with its intriguing charm, thanks to its unique cone-shaped buildings. The village of Alberobello was founded in the second part of the 16th century: the landlords at that time belonged to the Acquaviva family and they were the earls of Conversano. In the feud lived local peasants who started to build houses without using mortar (this kind of circular building was then called "trullo"), simply by using the stones that they found on the soil or in caves. As the landlords wanted the pageants to pay taxes each time they built a village, this kind of building seemed to be the best solution, because they could be easily destroyed in case of inspection from the King's soldiers. In 1797 Alberobello (thanks to the decision of king Ferdinand IV Borbone) became a free village and in 1996 it was declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site for its peculiar conic buildings. Nowadays Alberobello is known all over the world as the "Capital of Trulli".

After a short stop on the "Belvedere" (where you can enjoy a panoramic view on the cone- shaped roofs of the trullis with their mysterious lime symbols) we head on through the narrow side streets of the heart of Alberobello towards the "Rione aia piccola" which lies in the south-east side of the village. This part of the town is made of 400 trullis: many of them are still used as houses. Our tour goes on with a visit to "Rione Monti", where we can see more than 1000 trullis. There, among artisan shops and picturesque streets, we reach the top of the hill where the church of Sant'Antonio stands with its typical trullo-like shape. At the end of the tour guests will have free time in Alberobello or they can enjoy some of the special activities listed below.
