visit the archaeological site of Delphi, considered in ancient times as the navel of the world

On the slope of Mt. Parnassos and spread out like an amphitheatre, Delphi stands, as if isolated from the rest of the world with the Gulf of Itea, gleaming brightly in the distance. Depart the port and enjoy a picturesque drive through olive groves in order to arrive at the modern town of Delphi. Your first stop for the day will be at the legendary Castalian Spring where your guide will tell you some of the myths that made “the Navel of the World” for ancient Greeks so unique. Return to your Motorcoach and drive a short distance to the archaeological site, where you will take the Sacred Way up to the Temple of Apollo. Follow your guide uphill and note the various treasuries, small temples erected by the Greek city states, in order to receive the offerings made by their citizens. Marvel at the inscriptions from over 2,000 years ago, that can still be seen today. Continue your walk and pass the sparse ruins of the Senate of Delphi, followed be a pile of rocks, marking the site of the early Delphi oracle, which according to legend was guarded by the snake Python. As the Sacred Way rises steeply upwards, find yourself at the ruined Temple of Apollo which will be visited. For those that wish to visit the Theatre, continue upwards for another 10-15 minutes walk.
Afterwards, return to your Motorcoach and enjoy the magnificent views as far as Itea Bay as you make your way back to the charming town of Delphi. Here, enjoy free time to stroll around the shops and pick up a souvenir or two before returning to Itea and the ship.
