                 Departure  by A/C deluxe coach  and driving along the Tuscan countryside  you reach  San Gimignano  .  You can see Via San Giovanni, the main road with many interesting churches, palaces and shops.  Piazza della Cisterna, dominated by the presence of a big well, used since the very past. The square is surrounded by medieval palaces and towers, among which palazzo Cortesi-Lolli, palazzo Lupi and the “Torre del diavolo” (Tower of the devil).  Piazza del Duomo, the heart of the town, with three significant medieval buildings: the 11th century Collegiata (Duomo), covered with beautiful frescoes, among which, the ones of Ghirlandaio about the life of Santa Fina (patron Saint of San Gimignano); The Old Podestà Palace and the New Palace of the Podestà.

                    The “Rocca” (fortress), built in 1353 by the Florentines. It has today only one surviving tower. It encloses a public garden filled with fig and olive trees. From there you can enjoy the best view over the vineyards where wine has been produced for hundred of years. Via San Matteo, in contrast with the more commercial Via San Giovanni, caters mainly for the local residents, selling food and wine, clothes and other typical Tuscan products.

                      Board the coach and  drive towards the farmhouse where you will enjoy a very good tuscan lunch  . Departure from San Gimignano  to drive  to the Etruscan ,Roman and medieval town of   Volterra  where you meet the local guide for a guided visit.  You see Piazza dei Priori which is surrounded by austere palacesThe 13c Palazzo pretorio has paired windows and is linked with the Torre del Podestà also known as Torre del Porcellino because of the wild boar sculptured high up on a bracket . The cathedral in the Pisan –Romanesque style , although it has been remodelled several times . The town has numerous alabaster workshops.large salt pans to the west are used in the manufacture of fine salt and soda .  Reboard the coach and drive back to Leghorn.
